Living With Ghost: Are You Being Haunted?

Hauntings are rare occurrences, and sometimes it is hard to determine whether or not any strange phenomena you are witnessing in your home is truly due to a haunting. Most hauntings are found to be, after thorough investigation, either a mis-perception, hallucination or simply the power of suggestion. The cases that remain are still a mystery though, and in some cases, this maybe contibuted to the fact that we just don’t have enough information.
There are alot places that are alleged to be haunted, but in many cases their reputation comes to rely on slim evidence at best.
A haunting is one of the most noisy and destructive forms of paranormal activity. They are the true noise makers and can really cause major havoc.Hauntings are usually tied to a site, a room or even a piece of furniture.
A residual haunting occurs when  trapped energy is anchored to a location. This can include the recording of moments of intense emotions, such as battles like the one in Gettysburg. It could hold onto the energy of a murder or other violent or traumatic event. It could even be the embodiment of pleasurable emotional energy, such a big fun filled party or even extreme sexual energy. Imprints can also be recorded when the same activity is consistently repeated such as sitting in a specific “favorite” chair, walking up a flight of stairs or cooking in a kitchen.
Active hauntings, on the other hand, are in a minority and make up less than 20 percent of all  reported ghostly encounters. Unlike a residual haunting where what is being seen, felt or even heard is a recording or imprint of energy on an item or the environment. An active haunting involves real spirits or entities. During a residual haunting, any ghost that may be detected is always unaware of any human presence. This is not the case during an active haunting. During an active haunting the entity is very much aware of your presence and more likely than not interact with you in some way.
A true haunting is a paranormal disturbance that is usually attributed to the spirits of the dead. Various supernatural phenomena are reported including moving objects, strange noises, lights, cold spots, unpleasant smells, and the appearance of ghostly figures. Most haunting’s seem to be related to the residual energy left behind by those who have suffered some form of violent death.
Apparitions have been seen during both daytime and night time hours. However, most spirits can usually be seen or heard between the night to early morning  hours of 9pm-6am.
Hauntings do not have any malicious intent. They’re there for their own personal reasons. They may be trying to communicate with you or they may be trying to ask for help. They could have lived in the house that now belongs to  you and may not understand what has happened to them. In such cases where the haunting is a non-malicious active haunting, you can try to reason with the restless spirit, but doing this depends on the activity. In some instances, giving recognition to the ghosts may cause an increase in haunting activity.
There are many ways to help a spirit, and most lie in understanding the history of the building or home that is the subject of the haunting, discovering if any deaths have happened in the area or the identity of the spirit(s). History mayuncover a traumatic death of the person, such as a fire or other accident, or in some cases, a suicide or murder.
Although most hauntings are mostly tragic in nature, it has been discovered that this is not always the case. Incidents have been reported of residual hauntings in historic ballrooms where witnesses have reportedly seen people dancing, heard music and smelled certain scents, such as perfume or cigars, at times when nobody is present. One of those reports came from the Roosevelt hotel in Hollywood, Ca. As research into this fascinating phenomena continues, maybe we’ll one day have an answer.  Generally, the haunting is a fragment or a piece of an actual event. Most reported hauntings are predominantly of events that involved tragedy, death or emotional trauma. However, this may be more of a reporting aspect than scientific fact, given that people tend to report and ask for help in situations where they are frightened or overcome with negative emotions. The recordings of mundane or even positive events that may play back in hauntings are typically ignored or just accepted with a smile. Not so with negative or tragic events.
Hauntings are sometime accompanied by poltergeist phenomena. Some say polterdwist are restless ghosts who may be at war among themselves, for various reasons.
Poltergeist phenomena is usually contributed to either unusual physical conditions at the affected site, or to be related to psychokinesis. Anecdotal reports suggest that many poltergeist focus on an individual who is under some form of emotional stress.Poltergeist phenomena are believed to be the result derived from an alleged recurrent spontaneous psychokinesis (rspk) of adolescents (usually females), that is, from the alleged psychic powers of the human mind. This idea helps to support  the cherished theory of innate human psychic potential long advocated by the parapsychological and new age communities.
One need to argue such abilities can be sporadically strong and self-evident but evolved in nature to be commonly weak and unnoticeable.
Poltergeist phenomena are therefore not due to ghosts at all, but are the result of the frustrated adolescent channeling blocked energies.
So how can you determine if a place is truly haunted? Ideally, you need multiple, independent witnesses reporting the same, or very similar, haunting-type phenomena at the same location. These witnesses must not be aware beforehand that a location is allegedly haunted. They must also not have been deliberately seeking ghosts. People who are desperate to see something paranormal sometimes do by the power of suggestion alone.
