Pet farm refuses to honour refunds for dying dog
Sun, Sep 04, 2011 | AsiaOne
A two-and-a-half-month-old dog was diagnosed with a life-threatening virus just four days after being purchased from a pet farm. The pet farm owner has refused to honour his promise of a full refund for selling a sick dog.

A Stomp contributor, known only as Jessica, brought the dog to the vet after it started showing signs of lethargy, refused to eat, and only occasionally drank water. The dog, Truffle, also started to vomit blood and had explosive diarrhoea that contained blood. These symptoms started just four days after Jessica had brought Truffle home, and she was whimper weakly when Jessica tried to pick her up.

The vet found that Truffle was infected with Parvo Virus that had affected her entire GI tract, and that her immune system was very weak probably due to being removed from her mother at a very young age. Even with intensive treatment, costing $1,200, the dog's survival rate would remain low.

The Parvo Virus is dangerous and highly contagious for dog and it can survive for up to one year without a host.

Jessica returned to the pet farm with the vet's letter as she recalled that the pet farm owner had promised a full refund if a vet's letter was given to verify that the dog was indeed sick.

However, the pet farm owner tried to deny that the dog was dying, and only offered half the amount that Jessica had paid for Truffle. The owner also said that if she wanted the full amount refunded, she would have to go to the small claims tribunal to lodge a claim.

Jessica also added that the pet farm owner had laughed when he was told that the dog only had about one week left to live.
