A local temple hosted a banquet at Lim Chu Kang cemetery last night.

The 24-table banquet is meant entirely for wandering spirits and consisted of a generous spread of steamboat, vegetarian food and even a buffet.

The banquet costs the Jalan Kayu Tua Pek Kong Temple $30,000 altogether and attracted more than 100 devotees to the cemetery at about 11pm last night.

The banquet wasn't the only form of "festivities" in store last night for wandering spirits.

There were also prayers, offerings and a mobile puppet show staged on a lorry nearby the banquet. Fifty empty chairs were placed in front of the stage for spirits to "sit and enjoy".

Meanwhile, priests conducted rites to appease the spirits while devotees burned plenty of joss paper and even a "housing block for hell" that stands at four storeys high!
